Kyo

photo's from here
Kyo is a pop rock band from France formed in 1994. Kyo consist of four members:(from the left)  brothers Fabien Dubos (drums) and Florian Dubos (backing vocals, guitar), Benoît Poher (vocals, guitar) and Nicolas Chassange (guitar). Their first major hit was Le chemin ("The road") featuring Dutch singer Sita. Their activity lamed before 2007 when they released their fourth and summing the Best of album. Poher has written songs for such artists as Emma Daumas, Thierry Amiel and Emmanuel Moire (more about him later).

And by the way the name Kyo comes from a King of Fighter video game character.

Though at some point Kyo feels like just another Westlife it's partly more rocking but still sweetlike boyish band. And in my opinion Benoît's and Florian's voices combine very beautifully.

Check also: Il est temps ("It's time"), Je n'veux pas oublier ("I don't wanna forget"), Comme le mond est grand ("As/For the world is grand"), Qui je suis ("Who I am"), L'enfer ("Hell"), Dernière danse ("The last danse"), Je saigne encore live, More about Kyo.

I STILL BLEED
He has the right to put his hands upon your body
He has the right to breathe your odour
He has even the right to those looks that make him stronger
Put the warmth of your voice into my heart

*And it hurts, believe me, a blade pushed far away from my soul
Look at you there is not even a shadow of a tear
And I still bleed, I smile to death
All that red on my body
With my last effort I hurt you *

He loves to caress your face when you're asleep
And you let you say once more - once more
I know that what doesn't kill makes us stronger
But I - but I am already dead

*It hurts, believe me... *

But I still bleed, I smile to death
But I still bleed
All that red on my body (3x)

Apulanta

photo is from here
Apulanta a Finnish rock band is founded in 1991. The members are now Toni Wirtanen (composing, lyrics, vocals, guitar), Simo "Sipe" Santapukki (back vocals, drums) and from year 2005 Sami Lehtinen (back vocals, bass). Along with rock the genres are alternately changed from punk to alternative rock, nu metal, pop rock and hard rock. Anyway the music has changed to a bit heavier style.

The head singer of the band Toni Wirtanen makes also the deep lyrics. He takes his time to  write the songs and the topics are based on hard issues like mental health and life itself.

Apulanta has also done two publications in English though their main language is Finnish. Fans of Apulanta you can find mostly from Finland and Germany but also from other lands in Europe.

The latest album Kuutio ("Cube") was released in 2008 and in 2009 Apulanta won Emma-Award thanks for the album.

I think the absolutely best thing about Apulanta is the lyrics. Sometimes they are hard to understand for they have so deep meaning and toughtful words. And yes angst of North you can find from their music... :)

Check also: Pahempi toistaan ("Both worse than the other"), Viisaus ei asu meissä ("Wisdom doesn't live in us"), Hiekka ("Sand"), Jumala (with english translation) ("God"), Trauma ("The trauma"), Ravistettava ennen käyttöä ("Shake before opening"), Runalla ("On the edge"), Bring me down (English version of "Reunalla"),Vasten mun kasvojani ("Against my face"), Armo ("Mercy"), Turvallista matkaa helvettiin ("Safe journey to hell").

music & lyrics Toni Wirtanen

Koneeseen kadonnutta
ei voi takaisin saada
Kulutettu, käytetty
ruokkimaan ympyrää

Luotettu ehkä liikaa
siihen että aika korjaa
se minkä vuoksi nähtiin
niin kovin paljon vaivaa

Että hajalle saatiin
Se mikä kauniiksi tarkoitettiin

*Kipu kuolee huutamalla
alastomana lattialla
Miten kauan sitä kestää
ei, sitä ei voi tietää
Kehen sattuu ja kuinka paljon
siitä kysymys enää tässä kai on
Kun on saavuttu siihen pisteeseen
ettei mikään ole varmaa*

Maailman pisimmät tunnit
niiden otteeseen jää kiinni
Niitä kantaa loppuun asti
vaikka itse ei aina huomaa

Millainen on se taivas
jota ei löydetty koskaan
Olen kuullut paljon siitä
osan jopa omasta suustani

Voi niin pitkälle jaksaa
kun itsellensä vakuuttaa

*Kipu kuolee huutamalla... *

Joku meistä on onneton
palanut mutta tunnoton
katuva mutta uskoton
enemmän kuin rauhaton

Periaate on ehdoton
perustelu on aukoton
yhtälö ehkä mahdoton
Miten niin muka armoton? (5x)

*Kipu kuolee huutamalla... *

GONE INTO THE MACHINE
Gone into machine
Can't get it back
It's consumed, it's used
To feed the circle

One has trusted maybe too much
In that time will heal
The one for what
One has worked so much

So that we broke
What was ment to be beautiful

*Pain dies by screaming
Naked on the floor
How much will it take?
No,no one cannot know it
To who does it hurt and how much?
That's the question - I guess
When we have passed the point of no certainity *

The most longest hours of the world
They hold on you
And you will carry them to the end
Though you don't notice it by yourself

What kind of heaven it is
The one we never found?
I have heard so much about it
Some things even from my own lips

So far you can carry on
When you convince yourself

*Pain dies by screaming... *

Someone of us is hopeless
Burned but numb
Remorseful but unfaithful
More than calmless
The principle is absolute
Explanation has no chinks
Equation maybe impossible
How could it be merciless? (5x)

*Pain dies by screaming... *

Lisa Ekdahl

Lisa Ekdahl a Swedish pop, jazz singer and musician is known around the Europe though she sings mostly in Swdish. She also has whole albums in English and her latest gigs were in Finland, in Turkey and in Switzerland...
She has released albums since 1994 and in 2009 was published her nineth album.

For some her voice is too odd to listen. I know people who hate her for she is so exceptionel.

Check also: Vem vet ("Who knows"), Hon förtjänar hela himmlen ("She deserves the whole heaven"), Jag tror han är en ängel ("I believe he is an angel"), Now or never, Du var inte där för mig ("You were'nt there for me"), Sakta, sakta ("Carefully"), Gå dit ifall du minns ("Go there if you remeber").

*Att vi är många som... *

Han såg solen i ögonen
Han var lätt som en vind
Han såg bortom det blå på himmelen
Då han gick föll en tår på min kind

*För vi är många som.. *

BEYOND THE BLUE

¤¤¤ I saw a man wading down in the water
I asked where he was going
He said" I go there where my legs carry me
It will not be  so hard"

He told about sky and sea
He chose the most used words
But the words came alive when they camo out his mouth
Yes, it was like I suddenly understod  ¤¤¤

* That we are many talking about the sea
But few has sea in the eyes
Once I met a man with eyes like that
But none of them I asked knew where he was going
And we are many talking about the sky
But few can understand the eternity
I saw a man carring the sky inside him
But where is he going there is no one who knows *

¤¤¤ I saw a man... ¤¤¤

*That we are many.. *

He saw the sun in the eyes
He was light as the wind
He looked beyond the blue of the sky
When he went fell a tear to my cheek

*For we are many... *

Ohrbooten

Band called Ohrbooten comes  from Germany and combines different genres: hip hop, pop, rock, gypsy, reggae, jazz, dancehall, alternative, salsa, orientaö, ragga, rap and ska. Ohrbooten calls their musical style as Gyp-Hop, that's also the name of their third and for now latest album. Name comes from gypsy and hip hop.
There are four members (from left): Christopher Noodt (keyboard, bass, back vocals), Ben Pavlidis (leading vocals, guitar, lyrics), Markus "Onkel" (means "Uncle") Lingner (percussion, drums, cajon,  back vocals) and Matze Jechlitschka (guitar, back vocals).
Band Ohrbooten sings in German because they want to be undesrtod in Germany because the lyrics are essential. They don't sing just in German but in slang od Berlin. Though they have performed on the stage they keep coming back to the streets where their group was formed and started for to be near their audience and people.
Ohrbooten has collaborated with such Central European bands as Estonian group Vanilla Ninja and German group Culcha Candela (maybe more about them later) and from 2008  Ohrbooten has been working for German project "School without rasism - School with courage".
This song is about the sad weather when we want to go elsewhere "where the weather is better". I heard this song first time when it was raining cats and dogs and tarantellas and this was like a ray of sun in the middle of grey. I apologize for this lyrics translation may contain errors for I have translated it from slang of Berlin which I do not speak.

ik loof da so die Straße lang
kalter Regen is of menen Wegen
und es fängt auch noch zu hageln an
ey wat is 'n dit für 'n Leben?
wat mach ich bloß in dieser Stadt,
die mehr Winter als nen Sommer hat?

*und tschüss!...
wann ik wiederkomm is ungewiss
sicher is, dass ik mir verpiss
dahin wo det Wetter besser is
Sonnenschein ohne Kompromiss*

mene Füße in die Socken
mit zusammn in mene Botten
und dann volle pulle joggen
zu Robben und Wientjes

Lasterverleih!!!

allet wat ik hab,
ab of 'n Truck jepackt
durch die Innenstadt
Stop vor 'nem Trödelshop-Spot
und verklopp den Schrott
dit war doch allet nur 'n Anker
und ohne soviel Zeug läuft et doch sowieso entspannter
schicket one-way-ticket
der Style is mein Mantra

*und tschüss!... * (2x)

mein Konto lös ich auf
Wohnungskündigung is raus
mein Auto is verkauft
meinen Kumpels sag ich ciao

*und tschüss!... *

UND TSCHÜSS!!!!

 AND BYE!!!!

I run down the street...
The cold rain is on my way
It starts to hail...
Ey what is this?
What am I really doing in this city
Which has more winter than summer?

*And bye!...
When do I come back
It's uncertain
Certain is that I'll go
There where the weather is better
Sunshine without compromise *

My feet are in my socks
With my boots
And then full speed ahead
To the "Robben und Wintjes" ( a rent a car& transport company)

!!!Rastafari!!!

All what I got
Is packed in a trunk
Through the city
STOP in front of a junk shop
I leave all my stuff
All that was just an anchor
With less stuff it's more relaxing

Send a one-way-ticket...
That is my mantra

*And bye...* (2x)

I erase my account, my house dismissal is on,
My car is sold, to my friends I say ciao!

*And bye...* (3x)

AND BYE!!!

Johnossi

Johnossi a duo from Sweden. Those two members are (from left) Oskar "Ossi" Bonde (drums, percussions, vocals) and John Engelbert (vocals, guitar, lyricist). So simply together they are Johnossi. Believe it or not it took quite some time before I got it, sad to admit.

Johnossi plays also tambourine, guiro, chims etc. Their lyrics are a bit angsty and the following song is one of the cheerest ones.

John and Ossi met when they were under 16 years old and duo was formed in 2004. They relesed their first album only after five moths of performing and financed the album with the income of their gigs. And now one of their albums has been released in Japan where thay also performed  first time in 2009.

This song is very creepy but oh so true. The music video is brilliant - it has that something. You can watch it when you click the title of the song.

We're the people, the lucky
With the fragile bones
The ones who sit and worry
About getting to old
We're the people, the happy
With the broken hearts
The ones who draw a picture
And proclaim that it´s art

But you, and you, and you and you
You're just an animal developed into
You and you and you and you
A monkey needs to dance so do you

We're the people, the lucky
With the fragile bones
The ones who sit and worry
About catching a cold
We're the people, the happy
With the broken hearts
The ones who draw a picture
And proclaim that it´s art

But you, and you, and you and you
You're just an animal developed into
You and you and you and you
A monkey needs to dance so do you

*You like to do it as a child on your own
You're in the jungle and the monkeys
Take your mind from your home

How many time do they have to tell you
That it's perfectly fine for you to dance around
Naked when you're all by yourself*

Cause' you, and you, and you and you
You're just an animal developed into
You and you and you and you
A monkey needs to dance so do you

We're the people, the lucky
With the fragile bones
The ones who sit and worry
About getting to old
You're the monkey in the jungle
Trying to find your place
The one who let the sunset
Bring a silly kind of smile on your face

But you, and you, and you and you
You're just an animal developed into
You and you and you and you
A monkey needs to dance so do you

*You like to do it as a child...*

Cause you, and you, and you and you
You're just an animal developed into
You and you and you and you
A monkey needs to dance so do you

Paprika Korps

Paprika Korps a Polish band is not a traditional reggae band because they combine sounds of heavy dub and punk in their reggae music. They are very popular in Europe and due to their wide tour (25 countries!) they've got a nickname "The Heavy Reggae Travellers".

In 1996 formed Paprika Korps has six members: Marcin Matlak (vocals, guitar), Piotr Maślanka(keyboard, melodica, vocals), Tomasz Krawczyk (bass),Łukasz Rusinek (guitar), Aleksander Żeliźniak (drums) and Jakub Łukaszewsk (mix).

To Paprika Korps their music is a way to rebell and protest. They sing both in Polish and in English. The style of repeating one sentence in the middle of the track could be dull - but what comes with Paprika Korps - it's not. On the stage they are impressive playing among the invasive fog under the flash of the blue and red lights.

Paprika Korps new album Metalchem is released couple of weeks ago.
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
Past events, past lifes happened to you
More than just a feeling of a deja-vu
I feel like a onlooker into my past life
Cutting into previous times my mind the knife

When hallucinating seem things in dreams
Could I see into the future? It isn't what it seems
I say it's confusion the way that I feel
Chemical inside me makes it so surreal
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
They hold the strings, salvation is far
You'd like to see things the way that they are
They don't want you discovering your mind
They stay in power, while you stay blind

Wisedom, knowledge you must devour
Threaten convention, those in power
As will the opressors in authority
Who'd hate to see our land totally free
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
Ragga technician is on the mission
Against those who stay in power while you stay in vision
Watch out a feel a reggae wide attack
Bad days now are gone, the rotten system gone out

So people people move your dancing bodies
Destroy the old statement make everything clear
Our mind shall burn, with or without cannabis
The time is incoming, and the prophecy is near

Björk

Björk Guðmundsdóttir (21.11.1965) is a singer from Iceland. She is mostly known for her solo career but she has been part of many bands during her teenage life and in 2000 she played the role of Selma in the movie "Dancer in the Dark" where she also sang and danced for it was a musical drama film. In the film was also Cahterine Deneuve (Les parapluies of Cherbourg, 8 Femmes). Björks best known album is Debut (1993), the first of her solo albums.

After all Björk is a singer who has her very own style to dress, to make music videos and to sing. Her musical style is something between electronic, classic, jazz, ambient, alternative, folk, IDM and trip hop and the scale of her sopranolike voice is vide. Her crazy and wild costumes are her brand but on the other side she is a rough and plain northern girl (like in the picture on the top). She has got 13 Grammy - awards and named for "the best actress in 2000" in Cannes.

Her latest album "Volta" was published in 2007.

HUMAN BEHAVIOUR
If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready, be ready to get confused
There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
To human behaviour

But yet so, yet so irresistible
And there's no map and a compass wouldn't help at all

They're terribly moody
And human behaviour

Then all of a sudden turn happy

But, oh, to get involved in the exchange of human emotions
Is ever so, ever so satisfying

Oh oh, and there's no map
Human behaviour, human

Human, human behaviour, human

Human, human behaviour, human
Human behaviour, human

And there's no map
And a compass

Wouldn't help at all

Human behaviour, human, human
Human behaviour, human,

Human behaviour, human,
Human behaviour

There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
Human, human

Human behaviour
Human
There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic

Human, human, human, human.

BELIEVE IN ANGELS

Where the silence falls
There the river runs deep
Where the shadow ends
So begins the dream
Where the hunger leads me
It’s hard to believe
I’ll be lost to you

It’s the blood that ties
It’s the hurt that heals
It’s the face you hide*
Hides the pain you feel
So hold me up now
Yeah, I’m afraid to breathe
An’ I’m lost to you
Yeah, I’m lost to you

I believe in a heaven
I believe in the night
I believe there’s a path to follow
I believe in the light
Part of you is the devil
Part of you is the light
I’m gonna fly
Through the city of angels

Hold me under
Let the river wash away my sins
Let me drown and you
Let the water and the love rush you
You can hear me whisper
When you’re listenin’
And I’m lost to you
Yeah, lost to you

*I believe ...*

It’s the blood that ties
It’s the hurt that heals
It’s the face you hide
Hides the pain you feel
So hold me up now
I long to believe
And I’m lost to you
Yeah, lost to you

*I believe …* (2x)

Oh - through the city of angels....

MY LITTLE BASQUIAT

My little boy on the kitchen floor
(my little basquiat)
Stick men fighting stick dinosaurs
(my little basquiat)
Colours leaping all over the mat
(my little basquiat)
The kitchen floor is where it's at
For my little basquiat

One day
He'll be golden
Maybe chosen
Perhaps to lead
One day
He'll be shaken
Maybe taken
Perhaps to bleed

My big girl swinging from the bars
(my little comaniche)
Fist of stone flying above the yard.
(my little comaniche)
Halfway up is halfway down
(my little comaniche)
Or maybe it's the other way around
For my little comaniche

One day
She'll be moonlight
Maybe too bright
Perhaps, to shine
One day
She'll be found out
Maybe ground down
Perhaps she'll cry

My little girl on her mothers lap
(my little panchen lama)
Sucking on her fingers, surveying the roadmap
(my little panchen lama)
Seems to be the only one around
(my little panchen lama)
That sees the red lights at the end of town
(my little panchen lama)

One day
They'll be older
Maybe bolder
Perhaps, than me
One day
They'll be rising
Maybe living
Perhaps, in peace
