Susheela Raman

Susheela Raman is a Tamil - English - Indian singer, songwriter and composer. In her music you can hear the mixture of jazz, ambient, folk, trance, blues, carnatic and a hypnotic sound that captures you. while you're listening. She has released four albums, the latest in 2007.

Here is what she has wrote of the song Woman that I have selected for today:

Woman is a song about someone in a destructive relationship who is looking for the way out. As Susheela urges her on, the song transforms into a mesmeric chant invoking the Goddess Kali, a kind of archetype of feminine power. Susheela’s family has long tradition of Kali devotion and the intensity that comes through shows it. The song also describes situations she can relate to in her own family history. Indian woman have often had to endure a lot…family and social structures are very patriarchal and women are expected sometimes to sacrifice their own happiness on the altar of family honor. Woman features the amazing Egyptian percussion virtuoso Hosam Ramzi (who has played with many artists including Peter Gabriel and Page and Plant).

Woman

Woman, where’s your dignity?
How can you lie there while the lover destroys you?
He doesn’t know your worth
But you bear his burden and make it yours
Why do you cry?

Woman, don’t be tortured by a madman
You’ve got to get out
The prison door is open

Woman
Oh, woman why do you rest here?

Is your love an ignorant sacrifice?
Roles you learned to play
Conspire against you and hold you down
Why don’t you fight

Woman, don't be tortured by a madman
You've got to get out
The prison door is open

El Sueño de Morfeo

El sueño de Morfeo ("the dream of Morpheus") is a Spanish pop rock group which uses celtical influences on their music. OJOS DE CIELO

Juegan los momentos
Heridas sin palabras
Heridas con palabras
Sin apenas decir nada
Apenas dices nada
Y nada es suficiente
Piensa que es demente
Hacer caso a la gente

Y yo
Si tu no estas
Ya no se estar

*Perdóname
Si alguna vez
Te hice llorar ojos de cielo
Perdóname
Si alguna vez
Robe de tus labios un te quiero
Perdóname, perdóname *

Sigo tus pisadas
Aunque a veces me pierdo
Me pierdo en mil preguntas
Y siempre acabo huyendo
Por qué salir corriendo
Si te llevo aquí adentro
Hoy te echo de menos
Pero es que tengo miedo

Y yo
Si tu no estas
Ya no se estar

*Perdóname... *

Hoy aunque estés lejos sigo aquí
Sabes que no puedo, no sin ti

Juegan los momentos
Heridas sin palabras
Heridas con palabras
Sin apenas decir nada
Apenas dices nada
Y nada es suficiente
Piensa que es demente
Hacer caso a la gente

Y yo
Si tu no estas
Ya no se estar

*Perdóname... * (2x)

HEAVENS EYES

They play, the moments
Wounds without words
Wounds with words
You hardly say anything
And nothing is enough
He thinks it is crazy
Caring about the others

And if you are not (here)
I don't know how to be anymore

* Forgive me if sometimes
I made you cry heavens eyes
Forgive me if sometimes
I robbed an ”I love you” from your lips
Forgive me, forgive me *

I follow your footsteps
Though sometimes I get lost
I'm lost in million of questions
And always I end up escapeing
Why I leave running
If I carry you here inside
Today I miss you
But it's because I'm afraid

*Forgive me... *

Today I thought you are far I'm still here
You know that I can't, not without you

They play,  the moments
Wounds without words
Wounds with words
You hardly say anything
And nothing is enough
Think it is crazy
Caring about the others

And if you are not
I don't know how to be anymore

*Forgive me.. * (2x)

Tod&So

(Music&Text: Barbara Cuesta)

DEAD & SO

Today, today it's again time to sink in self pity

Alternative to go to the party

And to sink everything, that's also a possibility

Thoughts have not brought me long,

Specially at nights

Crying has only made the kisses wet

And that's why I'm moved by following thought:

It's all the same (I love it, I hate it)

Sometimes, when my heart is so heavy, then I say: thank you very much

They hand me quickly a handsome man who can lead me

Then latest till midnight I have again thought too much

I close my eyes,

I see atom molecules dancing on my grave at night

It's all the same (I love it, I hate it)

And when I die, my destiny runs

I fall into small pieces

Millions of molecules are now free again for another circulation

Though it takes yet a moment

Because for the first time on my grave will be danced

For the first time on my grave will be danced

All molecules sing for me in choir

A song about the sinns off my life

SHE AIN'T ME

You took me through the water,

Then you told me not to look straight down,

But I did
The more I found

The more you hid, you put me on
I wake up in the morning and

I turn around and find you gone, just me in bed
No note, no call, no sweet words said,

Yeah ya' put me on

*She might please you, miss Whoever
She might lead you to think you're too clever
She'll deceive you, you best forget her
Cause whoever miss Whoever is she ain't me *

Everytime we make a plan

You find a way to show-up late
You lost your time, you say: relax baby

Don't lose your mind, well you put me on
Don't you think I noticed when you strolled away

To take that call, said out of state
You faced the wall, your voice felt faint

Yeah ya' put me on

*She might please you... *

MINAPENDAWE
(H. Lotti & Will Tura)

Minapendawe Minapendawe Minapendawe Minapendawe

Minapendawe has nothing to eat
Minapendawe hardly stands on her feet
Still she keeps going on drying out under the burning sun
Searching food to survive to keep her children alive
Will she find it in time
Or will the desert just take another life away
Will she get through the day
*Oh, does she know how to fight when there is nothing to win
Only the night and then the struggle again
Is there a way to maybe give her a little thing - her life *

Minapendawe Minapendawe Minapendawe Minapendawe
Minapendawe has nothing to eat
Minapendawe hardly stands on her feet
She remembers the time
Fruit was juicy 'cause nature was kind
When they had to run away life got harder every day
Bones now bleach in the sun
So many people she loved and so much hope that is gone
But she must go on

*Oh, does she know how to fight when there is nothing to win
Only the night and then the struggle again
Is there a way to maybe give her a little thing
Oh, does she know how to fight when there is nothing to win
Only the night and then the struggle again
Is there a way someone can help today
And maybe change just a little thing - her life *

Patricia Kaas

Patricia Kaas (5.12.1966) is a French chanson pop jazz blues singer and lyricist. She is one of the most popular singers from France. Her deep and strong voice is unique. She published her first song in 1985 when she was only 19 years old. Her first hit was "Mademoiselle chante le blues" ("Miss sings the blues") and it was made by lyricist Didier Barbelivien.

Kaas has also played in a film called "And now... Ladies and Gentlemen" with Jeremy Irons in 2002. In 2009 Kaas performed and participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow with song "Et s'il fallait le faire" ("And if it would have done"). Though she reached the eight place and she was praised, I myself regared her song not as brilliant and powerfull as her songs normally are.
Since 1992 Kaas has been irregularly part of Les Enfoirés the great goup of francophonic singers.

Check also: Mon mec à moi ("My guy"), Quand j'ai peur de tout ("When I'm afraid of everything"), Dans ma chair ("On my chair"), Regarde les riches (Look at rich people), Kennedy Rose, Il me dit que je suis belle ("He said to me that I am beautiful")

In the translation I have used the parenthesis to mark the parts that are in German.

LA HISTORIA DE JUAN
(Juanes)

Esta es la historia de Juan

El niño que nadie amó
Que por las calles creció

Buscando el amor bajo el sol
Su madre lo abandonó
Su padre lo maltrató
Su casa fue un callejón
Su cama un cartón su amigo Dios
Juan preguntó por amor
Y el mundo se lo negó
Juan preguntó por honor
Y el mundo le dió deshonor
Juan preguntó por perdón
Y el mundo lo lastimó
Juan preguntó y preguntó

Y el mundo jamás lo escuchó

El sólo quizo jugar

El sólo quizo soñar

El sólo quizo amar
Pero el mundo lo olvidó
El sólo quizo volar

El sólo quizo cantar

El sólo quizo amar
Pero el mundo lo olvidó

Tan fuerte fue su dolor

Que un día se lo llevó
Tan fuerte fue su dolor

Que su corazón se apagó
Tan fuerte fue su temor

Que un día solo lloró
Tan fuerte fue su temor

Que un día su luz se apagó

El sólo quizo jugar

El sólo quizo soñar

El sólo quizo amar

Pero el mundo lo olvidó

El sólo quizo volar

El sólo quizo cantar

El sólo quizo amar

Pero el mundo lo olvidó

THE STORY OF JUAN

This is the story of Juan

The boy who was loved by no-one

He grew up on the streets

Looking for love under the sun

He was abandoned by his mother

He was abused by his father

His home was a lane

His bed was a box, his friend God

Juan asked for love

And the world rejected him

Juan asked for honor

And the world gave him dishonor

Juan asked for forgiveness

And the world hurt him

Juan asked and asked

And the world never listened to him

He just wanted to play

He just wanted to dream

He just wanted to love

But the world forgot him

He just wanted to fly

He just wanted to sing

He just wanted to love

But the world forgot him

So strong was his pain

That one day it took him

So strong was his pain

That his heart stopped

So strong was his fear

That one day he just cried

So strong was his fear

That one day his light turned off

He just wanted to play

He just wanted to dream

He just wanted to love

But the world forgot him

He just wanted to fly

He just wanted to sing

He just wanted to love

But the world forgot him

Björk

Björk Guðmundsdóttir (21.11.1965) is a singer from Iceland. She is mostly known for her solo career but she has been part of many bands during her teenage life and in 2000 she played the role of Selma in the movie "Dancer in the Dark" where she also sang and danced for it was a musical drama film. In the film was also Cahterine Deneuve (Les parapluies of Cherbourg, 8 Femmes). Björks best known album is Debut (1993), the first of her solo albums.

After all Björk is a singer who has her very own style to dress, to make music videos and to sing. Her musical style is something between electronic, classic, jazz, ambient, alternative, folk, IDM and trip hop and the scale of her sopranolike voice is vide. Her crazy and wild costumes are her brand but on the other side she is a rough and plain northern girl (like in the picture on the top). She has got 13 Grammy - awards and named for "the best actress in 2000" in Cannes.

Her latest album "Volta" was published in 2007.

HUMAN BEHAVIOUR
If you ever get close to a human
And human behaviour
Be ready, be ready to get confused
There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
To human behaviour

But yet so, yet so irresistible
And there's no map and a compass wouldn't help at all

They're terribly moody
And human behaviour

Then all of a sudden turn happy

But, oh, to get involved in the exchange of human emotions
Is ever so, ever so satisfying

Oh oh, and there's no map
Human behaviour, human

Human, human behaviour, human

Human, human behaviour, human
Human behaviour, human

And there's no map
And a compass

Wouldn't help at all

Human behaviour, human, human
Human behaviour, human,

Human behaviour, human,
Human behaviour

There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic
Human, human

Human behaviour
Human
There's definitely, definitely, definitely no logic

Human, human, human, human.
