Sidonie

Picture is from here.
Sidonie is a Spanish band from Barcelona. It was formed in the late 90's and at first the lyrical language was mostly English but after album Fascinado (2005) it's been Spanish.

The members are: Axel Pi (drums, bongos, tablas), Jesús Senra (bass,  vocals, sitar, guitar, main composer) and Marco Ros (main lyricist, vocals, guitar, bass guitar). They discribe Sidonie as a surrealist, psychedelic pop and psychedelic rock band. According to Sidonie the influeces comes from the Beatles, Rollings Stones, Bowie and Pink Floyd.

First album "Dragonfly" was released in 2000 and the latest "El incendio" ("The fire") in 2009.

This song is my very favourite of Sidonies songs. The basic plot of the song: A boy tries to tell a girl he's in love with her but awkwardly he falls right in front of her with his sad daisy bouquet. She thinks he's crazy and is afraid of him and calls the cops and the boy has never courage to say "I love you". It's simple and easy but so fun AND sad to listen. I'm very fond of songs which are stories that really work. You can hear that some songs are foced to specific rimes to be perfect stories but Sidonie has done it so perfect. Not too short, not too many and hard phrases.

Check also: Jardín polar ("Polar garden"), El incendio ("The fire"),Los Olvidados("The forgotten ones"), Nueva York ("New York"), Un día mas en la vida(feat. Zahara) ("One day more in life"),  Giraluna (Girasol would be"Sunflower" so Giraluna is "Moonflower"), Sidonie goes to London, Viva el loco que inventó el amor ("Long live the one who invented the love"), lyrics, Interview (in Spanish), Another interview (also in Spanish), Interview (in Catalan), Fascinado (live in ipop tve2) ("Fascinated"), MySpace, Live performance.

Es el día de la cita
te he traído margaritas

Yo te hablo y me atraganto
estoy temblando quedo en blanco
tu me hablas yo no entiendo
Te quiero!

En las ramblas ya eres mia
tu has gritado policía
me he escondido en el puerto
Te quiero!

Espero la calma
mientras tu crucero zarpa
Agito un pañuelo
digo adiós a la que quiero.

*Está en mi garganta...*

IN MY THROAT
It's the day of the date
I've brought you daisies
From my home garden
I love you!
Suddenly on the square
I see you among the people
I slip and fall to the ground
I love you!
And to you
I hand a sad bouquet
You draw away little
And to me you say that I'm crazy
*It is in my throat
It is in my throat
It's killing me and I bleed
It's killing me and I bleed
I suppress the "I love you"
That I never can say
I talk to you and the words get stuck
I'm shaking and I turn into white
You talk to me and I don't understand
I love you!

At market streets you are mine
You yelled the police
I hide into the harbour
I love you!

I'm waiting the peace
Meanwhile you cross the zebra crossing
I wave the handkerchief
I say goodbye to the girl I love

*It is in my throat...*

(Calogero)
*Face à la mer
J'aurais dû grandir
Face contre terre
J'aurais pu mourir
Je me relève

FACE TO THE SEA

(Passi)
Let's not choose by origine, nor by color of the skin
When we are dreaming of a life in a castle while living in the ghetto
To born the vice around the neck like Cosette for Hugo
To born into camo suit to the conflicts and to pray for the highest

Children of C.O.N.G.O. this rage I have against
M.I.C.R.O. my words are powerful
Out with socks on, dreaming of ripping the painting made of
Veapons, tears, made of blood and cries

(Calogero)
*Face to the sea

I should have grown
Face against the ground
I could have died
I rise again
I grab my last dream *

Both on the same slab of stone
And both dissappointed

I grab my last dream

It was a drought on a soil or it won't stop seeding
The sadness to the eyes that cannot cry
I have many distant dreams have rebelled much
And drunk much of nonsense and that made me too much drunk
In life there are slaps really and hits which do not meet the gole
The "don't you have an euro?" or hit that rips off, there

Is state, the RMIstes, the "have you something to smoke?"
If you are low one must be whipped, you won't give up
You are not known as yourself, the desire to stick the idiots
To be left-right face to the sea to the gally in the distance
You are not known as yourself, the jealousy let you slip out of shareing the jerk
Left-rights with a look of worry

*Face to the sea...*

Both on the same slab of stone
And both dissappointed

I grab my last dream

Face to the sea
You resist
Face against the ground
Your name on the list
Of your whole existance
Mentioned to arrive to the court

The history of this quill is chocked with tar
This grey material of what the lands are not bulid acquisation
We do rise, we repair thoroughly, heading to the Pantheon
I place one of those who is there, one who dreams about consecration
"To be voluntarily ready to manage"
We want to touch the sky without lowering the pants
Too few good fairies and too many Cinderellas
Calo – Passi 2.0.0.4. Action

Christophe Maé

Picture is from here
Now I want to make clear that Christophe Maé is one of my  very very favourite artists and I found him from my beloved library. I grabbed the album when I saw  it and tought " O, cool - some French singer!" and then I fell in love like so many French have done before me. I even planned to go to his gig to Paris but I was to slow and they all were sold out. So I stayed and cried alone. Oh well, I bought his latest album when I was in Paris this spring so I'm not crying anymore. :) Okay lets start properly:
Christophe Maé (his real name is Christophe Martichon) is a French singer. His trade marks are the hat, the guitar, the jumping and his whole lovely essence.

He started with violin at the age of six and when he was 16 he began to play harmonica and guitar which are his main instruments in his albums. He had a chronic and very hard illness due to that he had to lay on the bed several months but that was the way he found Stevie Wonder and his future career was clear.

Now there is no sign of his passed illness: he keeps on dancing and jumping. In 2003 his very first album "Sa danse donne" ("His/Hers dance gives"). During years 2005 to 2007 he was part of very popular comedy musical "Le Roi Soleil" ("The Sun King" (a.k.a. Louis XIV who lived in Versailles near Paris)). Maé has also won many francophonic awards.

The second album of Maé called "Mon paradis" ("My paradise") released in 2007 and live version "Comme à la maison" ("Like at home") in 2008. And this year in March 22 published the latest album "On trace la route" ("We trace out the route").

From 2008 he has participated in Les Enfoirés a major groupe of francophonic artists. In Les Enfoirés are also following artist  that I have already intoduced in this blog: Natasha St-Pier, Garou, Grégoire and Pascal Obispo and many others. And I will tell you more at least about Alizée later.

Christophe Maé performed in a video "Désolé" ("sorry")(lyrics) in a project "Hope for Haiti" ("Espoir pour Haiti").

And today at 8pm Christophe Maé is performing in Troyes at Le Cube so this day is dedicated to Maé and I hope everything goes well.

Check also: Maman ("Mom"), Ca fait mal ("It hurts"), On s'attache ("We fall in love"), Pourquoi c'est beau ca ("Why is it beautiful"),Dingue Dingue Dingue ("Crazy Crazy Crazy"), Mon p'tit gars ("My little boy" Dedicated to his son Jules), In "le grand soir d'Eliane et Francis with Pascal Obispo, J'ai laissé ("I have left/allowed"), Medley Acoustic, Maé dancing with Diam's at Zenith (very poor quality...), Myspace, more videos at homepage, Christophe dancing.

From Le Roi Soleil: A qui la faute ("Who to blame"),Ca marche ("It's okay"), Et vice Versailles ("And bad-mannered Versailles" or maybe a cortoition of "vice versa"..), The singers of Le Roi Soleil (in French) (Now and then in the video you can see Garou who interviews the singers in the end and thanks them), Contre Ceux D'en Haut ("Against those in high places")(Here Christophe is not but Merwan Rim and Vistoria Petrosillo do), Un geste de vous ("One gesture of you"),On TNT show, Medley On Téléthon, Christophe Maé looses his mind,

This was his first track that caught me and I just can't stop to listen to it and his unic voice...  The best music video is "Dingue dingue dingue" it's just lovely.

BELLE DEMOISELLE

*Belle demoiselle... *

BEAUTIFUL MISS
In the end of my road
A silhouette like a high voice
Approaches at height of my bare eyes
The silhouette, it's a girl
The national festival day
Whirring like a flotilla
That dominates my morale
I look at her, she smiles at me
I lower my arms and the eyes say to me

*Beautiful miss
Walking down the avenue
Her gait gives her wings
If I have courage to approach her
No doubt that, she
Flies away
Like a swallow*

In the middle of my road
A silhouette like a cloud
Drawing away with no noise
It's serious then
It makes my head dizzy
I'm high because of effect of to please
Really it's no festival
Though I want to please her
What have I done my God
For to be faithful for this confession

*Beautiful miss...
Inaccessible like a swallow

I count in my head
I'm high because of effect of to please
All the same it's a festival
An illusion can distract
I'm not perfect - not perfect
Thank you my God
But I draw a line over this confession

*Beautiful miss... *

Welcome to the roc !

Comme un roc !
Comme un roc !

*Comme un roc !
Ensemble comme un roc !
Tous unis comme un roc !
Tous tel un bloc
Solides comme le roc !
Ensemble comme un roc !
En ce lieu comme un roc !
Boostés à bloc !
Solides comme le roc ! Roc, roc, roc
Solides comme le roc ! Roc, roc, roc... *

Des traces, que la raison

Menace de lave en fusion
D'espace, que les saisons
En face des murs de prison

L'audace qu'on emprisonne

Cette énergie qui résonne
Un cri qu'on abandonne

Unissons nos voix...

*Comme un roc..*

D'alliés, que les regards

Piliers qui portent l'espoir
Dévier, que les remparts
Dressés au pied de l'histoire

Ne lier que notre foi

Qui nous pousse à chaque pas
Scellée au fond de soi
Unissons nos voix...

*Comme un roc...* (3x)

Roc

Comme un roc

ROCK
Welcome to the rock!
Like a rock!
Like a rock!

*Like a rock!
Together like a rock!
All unite like a rock!
All such as a block!
Solid like a rock!
Together like a rock!
In this place like a rock!
Boosted together as one block!
Solid like a rock! Rock, rock, rock...
Solid like a rock! Rock, rock, rock... *

The traces, that the reason
Danger of lava in fusion
The space that we know
Against the wall of the prison

We dare to inprison
This energy that resonates
A cry that we abandon

Let's unite our voices...

*Like a rock...*

The allies that look at them
The pillars that bear the hope
Drifting, that the ramparts
Fallen down to the feet of history

We are tied up by our faith
That push us with every step
Sealed in the ground of oneself
Let's unite our voices...
*Like a rock...*

Rock
Like a rock

Yannick Noah

Yannick Noahs origins are in Camerono but he is a French tennis player. And a very succeful one. In addition to tennis he has also formed a charity organization for disavantaged children and started a pop singer career. He has now collaborated inter alia with Jean-Jacque Goldman who is well known French music maker. Noah sings in French and in Spanish.

Between 1993-2001 Noah has been part of the great francophonic ertist group called les Enfoirés.

His best known hit "Aux arbres citoyens" is an "environmental wake-up call" and very much seen in ecological circles. And for some unknown reasons I still decided to pick his other not so remarkable song with not so remarkable lyrics just because it's the only song in that genre that I do like. So let's dance to the beat of Yannick Noahs "Danser".

Check also: Donne moi une vie ("Give me a life"), Te quiero ("I love you"), Mon Eldorado ("My Eldorado - the city of gold"), Destination ailleurs ("Destination elsewhere")

TO DANCE
*Dance to forget
That the world is beaten to the dents
Dance, redesign
A world with cadence *

For to pray the gods
Or to say goodbye
To exorsise one's angers and fears
To live the music inside

For make water to spout
And to fly once more higher
And to make shine our hearts and our corps
To celebrate the love, to celebrate the death

* Dance to forget..*

To put off the bad luck
To exist just a little stronger
To change the worse for the best
To dance
To pray like a tourning dervish
For the traditions – dance
For the emotions – dance
And for to celebrate the lands or nations
Dance for the dance

*Dance to forget... *

Hééééé Hi hé hi hé hé

For to refuse to be nobody
And to resist, to become a man
For the joy of sharing
Dance for the dance
(The best of the world or what?!?!)
*Dance to forget... *
(Ewerybody yeah yeah!!!)
Dance to forget

Paprika Korps

Paprika Korps a Polish band is not a traditional reggae band because they combine sounds of heavy dub and punk in their reggae music. They are very popular in Europe and due to their wide tour (25 countries!) they've got a nickname "The Heavy Reggae Travellers".

In 1996 formed Paprika Korps has six members: Marcin Matlak (vocals, guitar), Piotr Maślanka(keyboard, melodica, vocals), Tomasz Krawczyk (bass),Łukasz Rusinek (guitar), Aleksander Żeliźniak (drums) and Jakub Łukaszewsk (mix).

To Paprika Korps their music is a way to rebell and protest. They sing both in Polish and in English. The style of repeating one sentence in the middle of the track could be dull - but what comes with Paprika Korps - it's not. On the stage they are impressive playing among the invasive fog under the flash of the blue and red lights.

Paprika Korps new album Metalchem is released couple of weeks ago.
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
Past events, past lifes happened to you
More than just a feeling of a deja-vu
I feel like a onlooker into my past life
Cutting into previous times my mind the knife

When hallucinating seem things in dreams
Could I see into the future? It isn't what it seems
I say it's confusion the way that I feel
Chemical inside me makes it so surreal
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
They hold the strings, salvation is far
You'd like to see things the way that they are
They don't want you discovering your mind
They stay in power, while you stay blind

Wisedom, knowledge you must devour
Threaten convention, those in power
As will the opressors in authority
Who'd hate to see our land totally free
*Explore the mind and reach salvation
Solve the puzzle of creation*
Ragga technician is on the mission
Against those who stay in power while you stay in vision
Watch out a feel a reggae wide attack
Bad days now are gone, the rotten system gone out

So people people move your dancing bodies
Destroy the old statement make everything clear
Our mind shall burn, with or without cannabis
The time is incoming, and the prophecy is near

Pascal Obispo

Picture is from here.
Pascal Michel Obispo aka Pascal Obispo is a French singer, composer and lyricist. He is known for his bold head and low profile when media comes along.

Though Obispo started with salsa is his genre nowadays pop. His voice is surprisgly high and clear.

He has collaborated with the most popular French singers as

Obispo has released eleven albums starting from 1990 and the latest "Welcome to the magic world of Captain Samouraï Flower" was published in 2009.

In 2001 he won the Best French Male Artist -NRJ Music Award.
Since 1997 he has been one of les Enfoirés which is a enorme group of francophonic artists.

Check also: Lucie, Tombé pour elle ("Fallen in love with her"),Sa raison d'être ("Her/His reason to be"), Personne ("No one"),Les meilleurs enemies ("The best enemies"), La valse des regrets ("the walz of regrets"), Live performance in TV2 in "Le grand soir d'Eliane et Francis" with Christophe Maé, Mourir demain with Natasha St-Pier("To die tomorrow"), Interview (in french), Another interview (in french), Interview in Le Grande Journal.

This song is very touching and I myself start to cry almost everytime I hear this. The melody is so melancholic, sad and dreary. The english translation does not sound as dramatic and beautiful as the original lyrics, sorry that.

ASSASINE
Tant de jours, de mois passés
Effacés et classés
Les maux et moments
Des plaisirs dépassés
Aux cimes de mes désirs
Ton ventre se dessine
Assez de simagrées
Tu m'as choisi pour cible
Assassine

MURDERER
So many passed days and monts
Plain and classed
The pains and moments
Of obsolate pleasure
To the top of my desires
Your tummy draws
Enough fake gestures
You have chosen me as your target
Murderer
If I follow you with my eyes
I don't think it's a game

*But if you murder me as frequently
But – the knife in the wound too frequently
I prefere that you murder me
For good now
I will not endure much longer
That you murder me so many times *

From there my breath is cut
I am hit with all the forces
You persist and sign
It's a heavy sorrow
Murderer
It's lofty but it strikes me to the death
That baby, but it's a beautiful pretext I say
Like if love not endures all the time
Now I escape from you with my eyes
Though my heart still burns fire

*If you murder me...*

Thåström

After a little break due to my (stupid) computer I start again with renewed pages and a new artist. Now to honor the beloved Victoria, the crown princess of Sweden, and her darling Daniel and their first day as husband and wife I decided to begin with a Swede artist called Sven Joachim "Pimme" Eriksson Thåström. He is better know just as Thåström.

Thåström is a talented lyricist, composer, singer and musician. He plays gitar, keybord and harmonica. He is now at his 50's and couldn't be better.

Along his solo career he is known as a singer in a punk band called Ebba Grön which was one of the most popular punk bands in Sweden. Now Thåströms genres beside punk are electric music, rock, hard rock and industrial rock.

Latest solo album "Kärlek är för dom" ("Love is for them") was released in 2009 on Friday the 13th! It was his seventh solo album and it was the number one on the lists. Now in 2010 his latest album was rewarded as the best album of the year and he also won the category for the lyricists.

I chose this song specially for its lyrics and the feeling that the music gives. It is powerful and so so so good!!! And a bit scary... In the music video misses a part but it is in the live version which is slower version but that makes it all the way better :)

Betala kontant i himmlen
Du köper din väg till himmlen

Kan du inte byta ut ditt liv
Så byt kanal
Lyckan bytes ut lika lätt som ideal

*Alla vill...*

EVERYBODY WANTS TO HEAVEN
Can't you change your name, so change planet
You can be a star they'll never can take down
Think how fun to hang high up there to look down at people and smile

I want, you want

*Everybody wants to heaven and
Drive limousine ofcourse
Everybody wants to heaven, to heaven*

A happy man never knows who he hits
He knows that the mirror is the best friend he ever can get
He looks once more and John Wayne has become two

I want, you want

*Everybody wants.."

Jesus walked on the water there is something definite in that idea
With two empty hands he built his moon rocket
A simple man like you and me but only with a better style

I want, you want

*Everybody wants... *

You buy your way to heaven
You pay in cash in heaven
You buy your way to heaven

Can't you change your life
So change channel
Luck changes as easily as an ideal

*Everybody wants... *
